Recommended software Provides a brief overview on the software I use for adding date/time to video, editing it and producing client-ready DVDs. Real life scenarios / questions Scenarios covering most of the things you might want to do with your surveillance video. I've given a brief answer to each question as an overview. Using AVS Video Converter AVS Video Converter converts almost all types of video files to DVD or any other video file format. It also can bring up date/time on MTS files and will combine multiple files types of different aspect ratios (16:9 and 4:3 file types) into one DVD with the correct aspect ratio throughout. Using SuperDvdate SuperDvdate will add time/date to the following file types; MOD, MTS, M2TS, AVI, MP4, MOV, TOD. It will also work with MP4 and 3GP, which have been taken on your mobile / cell phone. Using AVS Video Remaker AVS Remaker allows you to take multiple files of the same file type, edit them and then re-make them (without any re-encoding) thereby giving you no loss in quality. Very accurate (by Key Frame) editing can be done, photos can be taken off the video and you can exclude audio on the DVD before burning. Using AVS Disc Creator Both AVS Video Converter and Remaker produce a full DVD structured file before giving you the option to burn a DVD. That file is perfect for archiving your video on a PC. AVS Disc Creator can then take that DVD file and re-burn additional DVD copies. Using Freemake Video Converter A quick, easy and free way to get date/time on your HiDef MTS video files and burn them to a DVD with no edits. I use and recommend the following software. Clicking on a heading will take you to the website. SuperDvdate One of only a few options for getting time/date onto a lot of different video files other than the MTS format. Super DVDdate will add time/date to the following file types; MOD, MTS, M2TS, AVI, MP4, MOV, TOD as well as MP4 and 3GP, which might have been taken on your mobile / cell phone. The current price for SuperDVDdate is $38USD, but you can download a free trial version. The AVS4YOU range of programs There are 18 video, audio and miscellaneous programs available from AVS4YOU. A one year access fee is currently $39USD and unlimited / lifetime access is $59USD. That fee allows you to download and use all those programs and all future updates are free. However, there are only three programs I use on a regular basis for my video - see below. Fully functional trial versions are available that will place a watermark on the video. AVS Video Converter AVS Video Converter converts almost all types of video files to DVD or any other video file format. It also can bring up date/time on MTS files and will combine multiple files types of different aspect ratios (16:9 and 4:3 file types) into one DVD with the correct aspect ratio throughout. For example, 4:3 file types (in between multiple 16:9 files) will have black bars inserted either side of that video so when they are played the 4:3 video isn't stretched sideways to fill the 16:9 gap. AVS Video Remaker AVS Remaker allows you to take multiple files of the same file type, edit them and then re-make them (without any re-encoding) thereby giving you no loss in quality. Editing out unwanted video is extremely accurate (using the Key Frame feature) and you can include a DVD menu (or not), add chapters and obtain high quality still photos. You also have the option to include or exclude audio on the DVD before burning. AVS Disc Creator Both AVS Video Converter and AVS Remaker produce a full DVD structured file before giving you the option to burn a DVD. That file is perfect for archiving your video on a PC. AVS Disc Creator can then take that DVD file and re-burn additional DVD copies. There is no need to produce ISO images of the DVD - you already have a useable copy of your video on your PC during the video DVD production process. If you need to quickly watch a section of the video, just drill down to the *.VOB files and play them on your PC. Freemake Video Converter Freemake Video Converter combines MTS video files with date/time, with each file either including or excluding audio, and then burns them straight to DVD in an unedited form. There are some minor editing features available, but they don't work accurately enough for my liking. Note: When installing the program, use "Custom Install" and note the option to have a browser plug-in installed is set to YES by default. Freemake's main advantage is that it is free. AVS Video Converter does a better job and has more options, but it isn't free. |
